The Issues
A free society recognizes that parents have both the responsibility and the right to provide their children with a quality education that reflects the parents’ values. Unfortunately, the government school monopoly teaches statism and harms the cause of liberty. Education must change if we want to preserve freedom for future generations.
There’s an easy solution to controversial issues such as mask and vaccine mandates, critical race theory, social-emotional learning, arming teachers, and questionable reading materials. The answer is to leave these decisions to individual families. The alternative is to make the government the arbiter of truth and morality, which is unacceptable.
Education should ultimately move to a market-based, privatized system. Until this happens, Texans can improve education through local parental control, expanded opportunity, and a return to academic fundamentals, which are vital to changing our failing education system. Parents need options such as education savings accounts, school vouchers and tax-credits to use when customizing their child's education. The markets and economies of the future will require more than one-size-fits-all curricula. We must expand opportunities for every student by providing more options.
